The suspect fired his weapon, striking the victim. The victim was treated for moderate injuries at an out-of-area medical facility.
Investigators began to pursue leads and spoke with witnesses. Through the course of the investigation, with evidence and statements secured, Semaj Jaqualyn Douglas and Tanya Sanainoel Toussaint were developed as suspects.
Reports indicate that evidence was uncovered tying Toussaint and Douglas as the culprits involved in the shooting. Investigators secured warrants for Attempted 2nd Degree Murder charges on Douglas and Principal to Attempted 2nd Degree Murder on Toussaint.
While attempting to locate Douglas and Toussaint, investigators learned that the suspects fled the state through persistent investigation techniques. It was believed that the suspects had fled and were hiding out in the Beaumont, Texas area.
Chief Chad M. Adams and investigators feared the couple's action would continue possibly using social media to lure unsuspecting victims to an isolated area where they would rob victims and possibly kill someone. Investigators joined The Beaumont Police Department and the United States Marshals Service in tracking down the fugitives.
Chief Adams and the Morgan City Police Department announce that with the assistance of the Beaumont Police Department and US Marshals Service the fugitives are in custody after being located in a residence in Beaumont, Texas. Douglas and Toussaint are incarcerated in Beaumont, Texas and now awaiting extradition proceedings back to Morgan City, La.
Chief Adams would like to commend the investigators at the Morgan City Police Department Investigations Division on their tireless efforts in identifying and apprehending Douglas and Toussaint.
