Morgan City Man Arrested in Funny Money Investigation

On January 03, 2025, investigators with the Morgan City Police Department Detectives Division began an investigation regarding counterfeit money that had been passed at a local business in the LA 182 area. During the investigation, it was learned that the Berwick Police Department and St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office were also investigation similar cases involving a subject matching a similar description at all three locations.
According to reports, as the investigation progressed Jacoby James Chevalier was developed as the subject who allegedly passed the counterfeit money in the three different locations. A warrant for Monetary Instrument Abuse was obtained for Chevalier's arrest.
On January 08, 2025, investigators with the Morgan City Police Department Detectives Division, Berwick Police Department, and St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant on Chevalier's residence on Egle Street related to the investigation. Chevalier was located and taken into custody when investigators located several fraudulent bills of U.S. Currency. Investigators also located printed copies of U.S. Currency along with two printers that were used in the manufacturing of the fraudulent money. Further search developed more evidence linking Chevalier, such as printing paper, and printed social security and identification cards.
During a recorded interview Chevalier admitted to printing the fraudulent currency and passing them at three different locations in Morgan City, Berwick, and Bayou Vista.
Chevalier was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was booked on the charges regarding the investigation conducted by the Morgan City Police Department along with multiple other warrants from the Berwick Police Department, St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office, Franklin Police Department, and the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office. Chevalier was incarcerated into the Morgan City Jail where he now awaits court proceedings.
