Tropical Storm Francine Advisories
Chief Chad M. Adams and the Morgan City Police Department want to keep our citizens up to date with the latest information related to Tropical Storm Francine. Officials are set to meet at 4:15 p.m. for the most up to date information on what areas are going to be impacted.
Francine is still tracking and expected to make landfall in between Franklin and Morgan City. It is expected to be a strong Category 1 or possibly a Category 2 Hurricane when it makes land fall.
We are starting to receive rainfall related to the storm. Your preparations should have been made. The Morgan City Police Department is asking that everyone pick up all items that may be blown by the storm. As the storm impacts our area, we are expecting a large amount of rain fall through Thursday.
We ask that everyone that has stayed for the duration of the storm to shelter in place. After the storm passes through, please do not go out and access the damages in the area until deemed safe by city officials. Please allow city officials and first responders room to work. If a street is closed off due to flooding, do not go around any barricades. Allow time for the pumps to catch up.
If operating a generator, please take all necessary safety precautions when doing so. Shut off your generator when filling it up and be sure to have proper ventilation due to Carbon Monoxide.
If there are any down power lines, do not approach them as they may still be live. Allow city electrical crews time to fix any issues that may be damaged due to the storm.
Some flood gates will be closed due to the storm surge. Appropriate Gates will be closed as water levels rise.
The Morgan City Police Department will be here in full force during the duration of Francine. If any of our citizens need any assistance, please contact our dispatch @ (985)380-4605. Please do not rely on social media to ask for help or file a complaint.
